Three Things to Purge Now




Recent studies show that the average adult spends up anywhere from 10 to 12 hours a week in the kitchen. We often overlook those things that are familiar when it is time to purge. Take a few minutes this week to tidy up your kitchen!


SPONGES

The dish sponge you use regularly houses a lot of germs. Experts suggest you put your damp sponge in the microwave for 30 seconds every other day, and replace it every week or two. Buy a few extra the next time you are at the store, and you might not be tempted to continue using a sponge that could potentially make you sick.


RAGS/TOWELS

Kitchen rags take a beating...from wiping up greasy spills and drying not-so-clean hands, to posing as hot pads when moving hot dishes. Brighten up your kitchen while keeping it clean by taking an inventory of your kitchen towels and rags. They're inexpensive to replace, come in a variety of designs, and your old ones are a great addition to your rag bin.


SOAP DISPENSER

Just because your dispenser contains soap, that doesn't mean it is clean. A few years ago, we went to a "hands free" version that is battery operated. Just swipe your hand underneath the sensor for an ample amount of soap. This has been a lifesaver for us when handling raw meat, and the great news is that most are under $20 and readily available!
